Joe was taken in the major league phase of the draft. This means that if the Blue Jays want to keep him he has to remain on the Blue Jays' 25-man roster or else be offered back to the Giants for $25,000 draft fee (half of what they paid SF). This means that to keep Joe, Toronto will have to use him in major league games (unless he's on the DL all season) meaning you have another major-league Aggie alumnus (Toronto could send him to the minors in 2017 if they wanted) as they can't just hide him and not have him play at all on a 25-man roster. If tbe Blue Jays are invested in keeping him you'll have another former Aggie in the majors. I don't know that Joe's chances are very good of making the Blue Jays given he hasn't pitched above Double-A (rule V choices usually don't make it), but if he does that gets Aggie baseball some good recognition. Granted Joe only played 1 year for UCD, but it is the only 4-year school he did play for.
