I really am more interested in, why can Berkeley recruit all these out of state kids and we, apparently, cannot or do not. Do they pay the $26,000 out of state tuition fees out of the athletic budget, or not? If yes, then I inderstand. Does Berkeley use the 5% "under represented" loophole to get all these kids into UC in the first place? At the expense of non-athletes? If so, we really should know about that or is this just "something we do not talk about." The incredibly different demographics on the field today re: two UC football teams just screams to be addressed. Either they are doing something way bad, or we are out of touch with reality. Call your local AD for the answers.

Some of the major reasons we have better talent are: 1) We been a FBS/D1-AA/Major school almost from the inception of college football 2) We play in the only BCS conference west of the Rockies 3) We have a winning program 4) We have a great head coach and an outstanding coaching staff 5) We put players in the NFL 6) We have a awsome AD 7) Our Chancellor supports the Cal sport programs in general We have tons of alums 9) We also have rich and generous donors

Call your local AD for the answers. Cal is FBS, Pac-10, they win football games and go to Bowls. As far as recruiting....TheFn seems to be the go-to guy on this board, but I would say that because of our limited budget we have to stay local. We go into SoCal and pick up a lot of talent, but I think there literally isn't the money to fly around the country to court HS players. We seem to get the best we can get around California (which has an emmense amount of talented players for every level of college football). And I think we actually do a pretty good job with that.

Posts: 636 (09/06/10 11:52 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Remove this ad thanks for the post, Scottski....nice to see the Bear fans had good things to say about the fans and the players. actually, the best response i got was pregame...waiting for a bus at College and Claremont, surrounded by some of Berkeley's best. A car makes the turn and the driver lets out a 'F*$! the Aggies!". that was pretty cool! in a funny way, that was a nice welcome! and...the fans i ran into leaving the game and at Barney's (damn good burgers) were very hospitable. Go Bears.....exceed the expectations and do the UC system proud!
