Is Hawkins? i believe the job was his for the taking last time, but he balked because of several issues/demands (assistant salaries, better facilities at the Stadium, etc). the question would be will we be able to address those issues so he'd take the job. Of course, its not crystal clear to me that he would have the same level of interest this time as he did last time.

Moroski did better last year w a dynamic quarterback, and he has had some hard fought, competitive losses this year. Do we assume Nathaniel hackett isnt interested?

It didn't even dawn on me that we haven't made very many moves with our staff, especially our offensive and defensive coordinators. We let Copp go, didn't make sense, and then there was Johnson who never had a chance to show us what he could do.
Someone with more football knowledge, are we crazy for not shuffling the deck?

He is a nice guy and he is smart, he just isn't the right fit for UC Davis football.I'm sure he is a great guy...Gerry Faust was a saint and where did that get Notre Dame in the early 80's? Sochor was a great guy with the differences being he assembled an excellent staff of assistants and had a great football mind. It's like running a business where the business is only as strong as the managers and support staff. Sochor left the defense to Foster and Arp while he worked with Biggs on the offense side with Biggs calling the plays. I can't speak to Saban being a people person but from what I have heard he is not...kind of similar to Belichick but both assemble great staffs. Just look at how many Saban assistants are head coaches and coordinators. The point is some reach a point in the career ladder where either by ability; organizational skills; lack of support; or a combination thereof they go as far as they can go. Looking at Gould's body of work as a RB coach shows he was an excellent assistant however there were no indications that he would be a great lower level head coach. It happens more often than not that a position coach is made head coach and is a failure...Jim Tomsula comes to mind! It's time to move on; find the best fit for the university; get creative with the pay package (Davis is a great place to live and raise a family albeit expensive); and get back to the winning tradition we all expect and crave.
